چکیده

Abstract Aim Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers account for 26% of global cancer incidence with prevalence projected to rise exponentially due the ageing population and lifestyle choices. Surgical resection is mainstay treatment remove in its entirety achieve an R0 resection. Positive margins, when cancerous tissue has been left situ, associated increased morbidity mortality. Current margin assessment involves histopathological analysis, after specimen. Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS) Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) are novel imaging techniques that have potential provide real-time margins intra-operatively reduce positive improve patient outcomes. The aim this review assess current state evidence use GI assessment. Method A literature was conducted studies using DRS HSI adult patients, published from inception October 2020. Results total 15 were analysed, nine which used six majority performed ex-vivo. image acquisition processing algorithms vary greatly. sensitivity specificity ranged 0.90-0.98 0.88-0.95 respectively 0.63-0.98 0.69-0.98, across five types cancers. Conclusions techniques, currently their infancy but outlook promising. With further research focused on standardising methodology in-vivo settings, could transform intra-operative

MRI Evaluation of Resection Margins in Bone Tumour Surgery

In 12 patients operated on for bone sarcoma resection, a postoperative magnetic resonance imaging of the resection specimens was obtained in order to assess the surgical margins. Margins were classified according to MRI in R0, R1, and R2 by three independent observers: a radiologist and two orthopaedic surgeons. Final margin evaluation (R0, R1, and R2) was assessed by a confirmed pathologist. A...

[Resection margins in conservative breast cancer surgery].

Conservative breast cancer surgery is facing a new problem: the potential tumour involvement of resection margins. This eventuality has been closely and negatively associated with disease-free survival. Various factors may influence the likelihood of margins being affected, mostly related to the characteristics of the tumour, patient or surgical technique. In the last decade, many studies have ...

Novel Biomarkers Aim at Detecting Metastatic Sentinel Lymph Nodes in Breast Cancer

Background: Intra-operative molecular diagnostic assays are currently used for the detection of lymph node metastases. The objective of this study was to find new biomarkers to improve diagnostic accuracy in the detection of metastatic axillary lymph nodes in breast cancer patients. Methods: We applied an absolute quantitative real-time RT-PCR to quantitate the expression of CK19, KLK11, and CL...
